What is Wet Reckless?

When the amount of alchol was borderline illegal, a plea bargain down from a DUI charge to a wet reckless charge can be made. To qualify for the plea, the individual charged must not have any previous record and must not have caused any accident due to his intoxicated driving. The wet reckless plea can reduce a fine, eliminate the possibility of serving jail time, and prevent a drunk driving conviction from appearing on the individual's record. If, however, there is a second offense, the "wet reckless" will be considered a "prior" drunk driving conviction and the second conviction will receive a heavier sentence.
